I am a sister, daughter, grandchild, friend, amongst many other titles and my relationships to people, place, and community are at the heart of my practice as a media and sound designer. I work at the intersection of live performance, installation, film, and television, creating site-specific experiences that reimagine how we engage with Black visual and aural cultures through media, sound, archival materials, and grounded research. 

 

Growing up surrounded by live performance, music, arts, performance, and history in Washington, D.C., I began my design practice within the very community that raised me, and that connection continues to shape how I tell stories. Music is my entry point into design; my background in vocal performance informs the rhythm of my edits, the movement of my images, and the way I build sound and atmosphere. 

 

I am interested in designing in spaces where people have found joy, solace, celebration, and sorrow, and using media to tell undiscovered stories and reimagine the things we have come to know.

 

I also see design as a pathway for mentorship, creating opportunities for young people to discover their creativity and recognize themselves as designers, even before they have the language for it.

 

Ultimately, my practice is about creating connections between people, place, history, and imagination while honoring the community that has helped shape me.
